The biggest tip we can give you to keep your removal cost down is pack well, the simpler the job is for the removal team the cheaper it will be for you.

 

Forward planning is the key to help the removal, these are our tips:

 

Clutter

 

Have a good look around the things you do not want to keep dispose of. Less things we remove reduces the cost of the move

 

Rubbish

 

A good idea is to find the number of your local council. The council will pick up excess waste including furniture. Kirklees council can be contacted on 01484 221000. Ask for the cleansing department. Most councils take up to two weeks to actually pick up your rubbish. However taking your rubbish to your local tip is also another option. Kirklees council tips are open until 4pm in the winter months and until 5pm in British summertime. They are open 7 days a week.

 

Packing

 

If you decide to pack your belongings, ensure you have suitable packing materials. Make sure that you use suitable boxes that are strong enough, large enough not to become too heavy. Always fill the boxes to the top so they can be stacked on top of each other. Mark the boxes with the name of the room, which you want the removal team to take them. If they are becoming heavy when packing, try filling the rest of the box with light bulky items such as bedding, towels, or soft toys. For fragile items such as porcelain, bone china or glass use sufficient packing material, also mark the boxes FRAGILE and which way up they should be kept

 

Washing machines, fridges, freezers, and cookers will have to be disconnected and cleaned and drained prior to removal. If you cannot unplumb your washing machine please inform us before the day of removal, we can unplumb your washing machine but we do prefer to know prior to the removal, and it has to be said the removal will take longer if extra work has to be done.

 

Ensure your loft space is empty

 

Tidy and pack the items in your garage

 

Clothing can be left on the hanger’s this can save you a lot of time in your new house. Wardrobe boxes have there place, however it is far more cost efficient to keep them on their hangers and pack them as though you would pack for a holiday.

 

Pets

 

Plan arrangements for any pets you may have. We cannot and will not carry livestock in the back of the truck. Animals can get confused during a removal taking place. A good idea is if possible someone who could look after them, this way they will not be stressed about the removal. Fish can be put in the special containers, which can be obtained from your local pet shops.

 

Dismantling furniture

 

Dismantle bed frames, we would suggest you put all the screws etc in a small bag and tape them to the bed leg for example. If you wish for Johnson and Johnsons removals team to dismantle your furniture, please let us know prior to the removal. Again, please be aware that the removal will take longer due to the extra time incurred.

 

Unusual items

 

Make sure you have told Johnson and Johnsons removals of any unusual items you may have i.e. pool tables, large antique furniture or any furniture that you may have had to bring in through the windows because it was too large to fit through the doors, and heavy articles such as bed settee’s etc

 

Utilities

 

Phone your utility companies with the final readings. They will send your final statement to your new address.

 

Post

 

The post office has forms to re-direct your mail. This generally takes 7 days. Your driving licence will also have to be changed; again, the form can be found at the post office.
